The Black Knights strode to victory on Saturday as they saw out a relatively comfortable 1-0 win away to a decent Sirocco side in a tough looking 1B fixture.
With 1st Bangor looking lively from the start it wasn't long before they had the goal their play deserved, a deep free-kick from Marty Robinson finding Danny McKee unmarked at the back post with time to control on his chest before prodding home a good finish past the onrushing keeper.
In the second half, it was more of the same with 1st Bangor controlling possession and carving out several clear cut chances which were only lacking the finish. Craig McCracken had the first of these, plucking the ball from the air with a great touch from Stephen "Bale" McCormick's fine through-ball before rattling his shot off the bar.
With Sirocco pressing for an equaliser as the game went on space began to open up and Danny McKee could've and perhaps should've had his second when he was played in on goal by Ryan Oliver only to see his effort comfortably saved when struck straight at the keeper.
Sirocco were then reduced to 10 men with around 15 minutes remaining when their keeper cynically brought down McCracken after he had nudged the ball past him with the goal at his mercy, leaving the referee no choice but to send off the Sirocco shot-stopper.
Robinson went close from the resulting free-kick but again 1st Bangor failed to find that crucial second goal and were nearly left to rue their missed chances as Sirocco went close with a header late on. In truth though it would have been unjust were Sirocco to have taken any points from a game they so rarely had a foothold in. 1st Bangor will be pleased with another win away from home against one of their promotion rivals and, in particular, with such a solid defensive performance when missing so many regular first team defenders.
Next up 1st Bangor take on Shankill United at home in round 3 of the Border Cup on Saturday 5th October.
